Ансамбль Колосвіт

Ensemble “Kolosvit” (1970–1974) is a fictional reconstruction of a Ukrainian ensemble inspired by the aesthetics of folk music and the sound of the 1970s.

The early recordings were close to traditional folk song, built around acoustic instruments, vocal harmonies and Ukrainian folk melodies. The repertoire explored themes of nature, roads, love, the changing seasons and human fate.

By the middle of the 1970s, the ensemble’s sound began to change. Extended guitar passages, flute, looser arrangements and psychedelic elements gradually appeared, while the folk melodies remained at its core.

The later recordings exist somewhere between Ukrainian folk music, acoustic folk-rock and early psychedelia. After 1974, the trail of the ensemble disappears, leaving its later history unknown.

What you are about to hear is an artistic reconstruction of what this forgotten ensemble might have been — and what its music might have sounded like.

Welcome to the world of “Kolosvit.”
